Assessment of crop water productivity in the Indus and Ganges River Basins: current status and scope for improvement

    Description
This study uses remote sensing, national crop productivity and land use statistics and weather data to analyse the water productivity of rice and wheat in the Indus and Ganges river basins in South Asia. It demonstrates that there is scope for improvement in water and land productivity in the middle to lower areas of the Ganges Basin where water is abundant but the high consumption is not being converted into high crop yields. This report was published by IWMI in 2010.
