It analyses evidence that suggests that Vietnamese parents are now focusing on quality over quantity, choosing to have fewer children and invest more in their education through private tutoring in order to give them a better chance of educational success. - The purpose of this report from Pyoe Pin/Yaung Zin, upon diversity in education in Myanmar (in English language) is to outline the diversity and role of non-state basic education provision in Myanmar (excluding the for-profit urban private sector) and to offer an analysis of the social and economic benefits of a diverse education system that meets the needs of a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual population.
It is hoped that a better understanding of these systems will lead to increased support by both government and the development partners and the report makes some specific recommendations and suggestions for inclusive educational policy-making in Myanmar.
The research for this report was based on a review of existing literature and data collected on field-trips between 2015, 2016 and August and September 2016 in: Yangon, Mandalay, Lashio, Taunggyi and Hpa An, covering Chin, Kachin, Karen and Pa-O nationality respondents as well as three monastic schools and three non-state teacher training programmes.
